Beary Biryani: Forgotten delicacy of Karnataka

Have you heard of Beary Biryani? No? That’s ok, I am here to share more about it.

Biryani is one dish that everyone in my family loves. So when everyone was in the mood to have biryani. I decided to make it but I wanted to try out something new yet traditional and that’s when I remembered the Biryani recipe contest that recently took place on one of the most amazing food groups on Facebook.

Mesmerizing Beach trail from Kumta to Gokarna (Karnataka)

There is something about beaches, they calm the chaos in me. So when I was browsing through Facebook and saw that a dear friend was going for a beach trail to Karnataka, I knew I just had to go.

Having said that, experience has taught me nothing comes easy and that is exactly what happened. The batch was full. Honestly, I was disappointed until the organizer suggested: “You get the train ticket, I will take care of the rest.” Sometimes a little ray of hope can do wonders.

The lesser-known unique Palmyra Sprouts.

Have you heard of Palmyra sprouts? Perhaps seen it in the local market? Neither had I.

When it comes to vegetables and fruits, I love buying them fresh from local farmers. Most of them know that apart from buying the usual I also love exploring and trying out new/local vegetables and fruits. So one of the ladies who is also a local farmer got me a strange yellow-looking food- The Palmyra Sprout and asked me to peel it before I eat. She mentioned it came from the same plant from which Tadgola / ice apples are obtained. On further probing and a little bit of research,  here is what I found about this gorgeous beauty.

Unique Pomelo/Indian Grapefruit benefits

Pomelo tree grows right in front of my house in my hometown in Kokan. It is a huge tree and bears equally huge fruits. As a kid, it always made me wonder as to how the Pomelo/papnus could stay up there hanging on a single thin stem. Also, why the only person who would be excited about the fruits was my grandpa, and while everyone disliked it because of it sour and tangy taste.
