Carambola benefits go beyond its gorgeous star shape. While its nutritional value makes it a star on my plate, this fruit also brings back a lot of childhood memories.
While exploring Byculla one afternoon, the large spread put by the vendor in the shade of a big tree caught my eye. He had a huge basket of Carambola. It reminded me of my childhood and suddenly I winced remembering the intense sourness of the first Carambola I had ever eaten.
About the fruit
Carambola is native to Southeast Asia and has been commonly cultivated and consumed in many parts of South Asian Countries like India for centuries. India is said to be the largest producer of this fruit.
Carambola or Starfruit grows on trees. It is somewhat oval but longer and has a smooth waxy coating. It usually ranges from 2 1/2 inches to 6 inches in length and when you slice it, it appears like a star hence the name “star-fruit”.
An unripe carambola has a distinct green colour whereas the ripe ones are yellow with orange-brown edges.
It is easily available in many regions of Maharashtra, Kerala and Odisha.

We called it kamranga. Please tell me – by consumed in daily basis , is it reduced fat?
I wouldn’t recommend consuming it daily. Also np single food can aid in fat reduction. Fat reduction can be done when you change your dietary habits and lifestyle
