A quick review of Mahesh Lunch Home (Juhu), Mumbai

Mahesh Lunch Home is a well-known restaurant known for its classic Mangalorean cuisine. First established in 1977 by Mr. S.C. Karkera in Fort, Mumbai. It now is present at various other locations in Mumbai.

So yesterday we finally ended up visiting one of their centres in Mumbai at Juhu for dinner with a bunch of old and new foodie friends.
My first experience at Mahesh Lunch home turned out to be amazing and here is why-

Ambience: 5/5

Entrance

Table arrangement

They have a spacious seating arrangement on two levels-ground and the first floor for couples, families, and even large groups while the decor is rustic, simple yet cosy.

Service: 5/5

The service at Mahesh Lunch Home was prompt, quick, and very friendly.
Personally, I absolutely loved the service. All I had to do was tell them my preferences/allergies and they served me food and beverages that fit my preferences.
The Staff had answers to all my queries may it be about the dish, the taste, or the plating. Plus, they took feedback constructively.

Food: 4.5/5

Beverages

Pacchadi Refresher
Pacchadi Refresher:
A definite must-try. It’s refreshing with the perfect balance of curd, cucumber, and curry leaves.
Virgin Guava Mary

Virgin Guava Mary:

A fresh guava beverage with chili powder is a must-try for anyone who doesn’t want a very sweet mocktail.

• Jigar Kulir:

Jigar Kulir

This was a simple, and refreshing drink with the lime-coconut-rose combo but sadly, it was slightly too sweet for my palate.

•Baby love:

Baby Love
This drink was love at first sight. A great palate refresher and tasted as good as it looked.

Italian kiss:

Italian Kiss
A mocktail that looks like shades of a rainbow. Strong flavours mixed up in a perfect balance.
After the first round of drinks, we began with our starters which had all varieties of seafood.

Starters:

Squids chili Basil
•Squids chili Basil- Apart from the fact that the squids were slightly overcooked the base gravy tasted delicious.
Surmai fry
•Surmai Tawa fry-It was a treat to the eyes and palate. Perfectly marinated and cooked to perfection.
Prawn Butter Pepper Garlic
Prawn Butter Pepper Garlic– Prepared and plated beautifully but on a personal note, it needed a slightly more intense flavour of garlic and a pinch of salt.
Bombay duck fry
•Bombay duck fry-Simple, crisp, absolutely delicious.

Main course:

Fish Mallipuram
Fish Mallipuram-A rich fish fry gravy made of coconut and nuts. A definite must-try.
Ghee Roast Chicken
Ghee Roast Chicken-Beautifully prepared with slightly bitter notes due to spice preparation.
Appam
Appam– A definite must-try.
neer dosa
Neer Dosa-It one of the best I’ve had in ages. They were soft and absolutely melted in the mouth.

Dessert:

Blue cheesecake
Blueberry cheesecake: It was Visually very appealing. The base had a crunch, the cheesecake was smooth on the palate, and the blueberry topping balanced the sweet and tangy.
Caramel Custard
•Caramel custard- It looked great and tasted even better. Thewas Smooth on the palate but it would have been better with a little more caramel.
Gulab Jamun
Gulab Jamun– These were an absolute melt in the mouth but a little too sweet for me.
Tender coconut payasam
•Tender Coconut payasam- The beautifully made tender coconut payasam made with tender coconut that gave a bite and a beautiful texture to the payasam was the perfect end to an amazing dinner.
Tips:
  • Order the classic dishes.
  • Make sure you tell your preferences and allergies prior.
  • If you want to cut on the calories ditch the mocktails and cocktails and go straight for the food.
