Balushahi is an Indian Sweet made with maida, sugar, and loads of love. It is one of the few sweets I like to indulge in once in a few months. This is the first time that I’ve tried making Balushahi but since I am not a big fan of sweets I’ve reduced the portion size to make it bite-size.
Bite-size Balushahi
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups Maida
1/4 cup ghee
Water
1/4 tsp Baking powder
Pinch of Salt
1/4 cup Dahi
Oil for frying
For the sugar syrup:
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
5-6 Saffron strands
Garnish: dry fruits
Procedure:
- Take maida, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Add in dahi and ghee and need into a dough using water.
- Keep it covered with a damp cloth for 20-30mins.
For the syrup: - Take sugar, add in the water and boil it till it has a thick sticky consistency.
- Finally, add in saffron strands.
- To make the Balushahi:
- Knead the dough into small balls.
- Lightly push the surface in with your thumb.
- Heat oil/ghee. Then add in the dough balls and fry it in oil on a low to medium flame till it turns brown uniformly. ( It takes a long time, so be patient)
- Once done put it in the hot sugar syrup and let it soak for 3-5 mins.
- Remove it and garnish it with dry fruits.
Note:
- The whole idea of making them bite-size is to control the portion size while being able to enjoy desserts.
- While these are bite size keeping portion control is very important.
