Longans: Nutrition, Medicinal, and Culinary usage

Longans also known the ” Dragon eye fruits” or Euphoria are delicious sweet tiny fruits.

Scientific Name:

Dimocarpus longan

Longans are known as the little brothers of litchee as they look quite similar. The only difference is that they have a smoother thinner yellowish-brown peel. The flesh is white translucent, and at the center, there is a blackish-brown seed ( its the seed that gives it the name dragon eye )

They taste super sweet, unlike the litchee. In fact, they have their own distinct unusual flavor.

Longans are native to South Asia. They are easily available at Foodhall, natures basket, big basket, and even at some local vendors in Mumbai.

Nutritionally speaking, they are low on calories, carbs, and have zero fat. But they are a good source of Vit. C, fiber, antioxidants, and also provide nutrients like vitamin B complexes, potassium, copper, zinc, etc.
